The scented fields of “Erba Böna”
Your nose will guide you in this itinerary. Follow the scent, starting from the sunny lawns on the Lake, farmed with mint and lavender, and arriving at the hidden glades among mountains were “genepy” and gentian grow.
In Verampio, a little hamlet of Crodo in Formazza Valley, you can visit the laboratory of “Consorzio Erba Böna”, a farmer’s consortium which unites some little farms leaded by women. They cultivate officinal herbs with an organic production method, in abandoned lands. The laboratory is such a magic place where a lot of spells take place.
Leaving the laboratory don’t miss the little church on the top of the hill in the nearby of Crego. The story about the church and the priest who build it is worth the effort of being told. And, of course, you could not pretend not to see the gorgeous electric power plant here in Verampio. Piero Portaluppi, a famous Italian architect, designed it and many others in Val Formazza and in others valleys. But this is another story which deserves of being illustrated.
