Valle Vigezzo Folklore Weekend!!
The Folklore Weekend returns to Santa Maria Maggiore on 24 and 25 June 2023!
On Saturday 24, from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, members of the Gruppo Folkloristico Valle Vigezzo will stroll in traditional dress along the streets and alleyways of the Borgo Bandiera Arancione del Touring Club, for a sort of flash mob that will take visitors on an exciting leap into the past between the late 18th and early 19th centuries.
In the afternoon, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., at the inauguration of the renovated ‘Rossetti Valentini’ School of Fine Arts and the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the exhibition dedicated to Enrico Cavalli, the group will be present with its typical costumes and characters from the Vigezzo Valley of the past.
Sunday 25 June is the highlight of the weekend dedicated to folklore, and not only in Vigezzo: the great parade of national and international groups will bring faraway colours and suggestions to Santa Maria Maggiore.
At 10 a.m. there will be the departure from Piazza Gennari of the 300 participants, who will parade through Via Benefattori, Piazza Risorgimento, and through the entire historic centre of the town. At 11 a.m. there will be Holy Mass in the ‘Vergine Assunta’ parish church, after which the groups will liven up the centre of Santa Maria Maggiore with music and dance.
From 3.30 p.m. the meeting will be in the Villa Antonia Park for an afternoon of celebration, with music and dancing; space will also be given to typical flavours with the tasting of the famous stinchéet, De.Co. of the Santa Maria Maggiore municipality, prepared by the women of the Gruppo Folkloristico Valle Vigezzo and other specialities offered in the ‘Piccola Osteria’.
