Carnival events 2023
Carnival events are back on Lake Maggiore!
The streets are full of color again! Masks, confetti, music… towns are dressing up for the most playful celebration of the whole year! Here is a list of Carnival events for the month of February:
Carnival 2023: Sunese Carnival
The traditional carnival returns to Verbania Suna on Sunday, Feb. 19. Lots of activities planned starting at 10:00 am at the old Suna pier with the traditional speech of King Rabaj and Queen Rabajana and the distribution of polenta, salami and gorgonzola. Advance reservations are recommended for meals.
Carnival 2023: Verbania Intra Carnival
It starts already on Thursday 16 February with festivities in Verbania. The “Giubiascia”, or Shrove Thursday ritual, opens Carnival at 8.30 p.m. at the Teatro Maggiore. It continues with a comedy by the Compagnia dul dialett da Intra, which this year presents ‘Ul savùr da patàgn’ (which translated from the dialect is ‘the taste of money’) by Franco Zaffanella.
Tuesday, Feb. 21, starting at 12 noon, Carnival also returns to Verbania Intra for the traditional distribution of tripe and salami.
The event, organized by the Cima di Intra Committee, will be held in Piazza Cavour from 12:30 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.
Carnival 2023: Stresa Carnival
On Sunday, Feb. 19, starting at 10:30 a.m., the Carnival Masquerade Contest will be held! The best costumes will be awarded at the end of the performance in Cadorna Square. To enter the contest, you can register at the Stresa Tourist Office or by contacting 0323 30150.
Carnival 2023: Ambrosian Carnival of Cannobio
Cannobio Carnival returns Feb. 23-25 with the traditional parade of floats.
Carnival 2023: Domodossola Carnival
From Saturday, Feb. 11, to Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Domese Carnival will be held with a full program of events, with the highlights for Saturday, Feb. 11, at 5 p.m., there will be the traditional parade of the Court of Mattarella through the streets of the village with the customary handing over of the keys of the city at Palazzo San Francesco to the “Togn” and “Cia” masks, and for Sunday, Feb. 19, with the afternoon parade through the streets of the center of the latter culminating with their wedding.
The Domese Carnival is organized by the Domese Carnival Committee Pulenta e Sciriuii.
