1. Ski Touring: Punta d’Arbola
In the home of ski touring, Val Formazza, you can do one of the most well-known and spectacular ski touring trips in the entire valley.
It starts from Valdo, at an altitude of 1274m, but you can also save miles of route by taking the Sagersboden chairlift at 1772m. From the end point of the chairlift, the Vannino Valley opens up, with a marked and clearly visible trail from which you can already see the end point of Punta d’Arbola. An hour and a half ride takes you to the first stage of the itinerary, Lake Vannino with its dam and the Margaroli Shelter. The view of the lake is stunning!
Starting from here, keep going to reach Vannino Pass, at 2754 meters, passing by the small Lake Sruer. From the Pass, continue along the well-marked trail that allows you to ascend the Punta d’Arbola glacier. With a last fairly steep section you reach the ice cap of the peak with a wooden cross placed on it. The route is concluded by descending on the opposite side of the glacier to Valdo.
2. Ski Touring: Monte Moro Pass
A wonderful itinerary in the heart of the Anzasca Valley, starting from Macugnaga. It starts from Alpe Bill, at 1663 meters, with a route of an old slope. After the trail, continue along open but discontinuous slopes until you reach the upper plateau of the Monte Moro. Climb to the center of the valley and continue to Oberto Shelter at 2613 meters.
Keep going to the Monte Moro Pass just above, passing the Madonna delle Nevi statue.
Leaving the slopes behind, you reach a wide shelf just at the base of the west slope of the Joderhorn summit. This is where the final section begins, initially with a moderate slope that then reaches the top of the slope more gently. Upon reaching the summit (for the last section you need to remove your skis) a spectacular view awaits you with a summit cross.
You return downhill by the same route as you climbed.
3. Ski Touring: Cima Camughera
This is a ski hike for expert skiers and it leads to one of the most beautiful viewpoints in the entire Ossola Valley to admire the entire Bognanco Valley!
It starts from San Martino di Bognanco and, passing through Picciola, you pass on an unpaved road to reach a small hydroelectric power plant. You continue along the Bogna river until you reach Alpe Forno. Starting from here, the summer trail begins, leading through woods and meadows to reach the Corte Sasso lodges. After this point, you keep the path in the woods for one last steep section before reaching Alpe Garione, at 1634 meters, where you can already admire the Cima Camughera Peak. Last steep section to Arnigo Pass, at 1990 meters, and keeping on the east side, you reach Camughera Peak.
Descend by following the ascent route.
3.Ski Touring: Blinnenhorn (or Corno Cieco).
A great ski crossing in the heart of Val Formazza!
The route starts from the village of Riale, the oldest Walser settlement in the entire Ossola Valley. You reach the Morasco dam and walk by the eastern shore of the lake. You go up the Rio Sabbione channel in a westerly direction and, after the Enel station, go ahead to Alpe Bettelmatt. Starting from here, continue to the Pian dei Camosci and, after the Città di Busto Shelter, keep going to a steep path to the Passo dei Camosci. Last stretch to the saddle to enjoy the view of the Blinnenhorn.
Return downhill from the same route.
