Stresa Festival 2023 returns to Lake Maggiore from 14 July to 8 September
62nd edition of the festival which presents itself as a real sound territory.
A New Musical Archipelago
The artistic director, Mario Brunello, introduced this edition as an opportunity to draw a new map of the musical territory. The islands of this archipelago are characterized not only by the different musical genres, but also by the talented artists who will inhabit them.
Stresafestivaljazz: Engaging Rhythms
The month of July opened with the island of jazz, which offered the opportunity to listen to two great international artists. On 14 July, Arturo Sandoval Septet who inaugurated the festival at the redeveloped Stresa Festival Hall, located in the suggestive Palazzo dei Congressi. On July 15, it was the turn of Nicola Piovani and his ensemble.
A completely new island overlooks the festival panorama: Stresafestivalyoung, dedicated to local young people who will have the opportunity to express their passion for music.
There will also be an island dedicated to Baroque music which inaugurates the month of August. On August 19, Vivaldi’s Four Seasons will be performed, reinterpreted by the brilliant composer Max Richter. The Brixia Musicalis ensemble, directed by Elisa Citterio, will play these pieces using ancient instruments. During this evening, it will also be possible to admire the performances of contemporary dancers and choreographers James Wilton and Sarah Jane Taylor. Other Baroque experiences include Monteverdi’s Combat of Tancredi and Clorinda and a concert of madrigals at the Museo del Paesaggio.
The largest musical island of the festival, Stresafestivalclassic, includes a vast repertoire ranging from classical to romantic and modern. One of the focal points will be the cycle of chamber works by Schubert. Outstanding performers include Alena Baeva, Dmitry Ablogin, Sergey Malov and Flora Fabri.
There will also be special events in suggestive places such as the Hermitage of Santa Caterina del Sasso, Isola dei Pescatori, the Alpinia Garden in Stresa and many others.
