Arcumeggia, the painted village at Lake Maggiore
Between the towns of Rancio Valcuvia and Porto Valtravaglia there is a small village known as “The Painted Village”, Arcumeggia, not far from Lake Maggiore.
From 1956 Arcumeggia was chosen to host “Painters on vacation” festival, a special occasion for emerging artists that decided to paint with frescoes the buildings’ walls of Arcumeggia.
Visiting Arcumeggia you will travel back in time with its narrow streets and the small squares with churches and bell towers.
More than forty frescoes can be admired on the buildings of the historical center, some of them painted by: Salvini, Treccani, Montanarini, Moletti and Tomiolo.... as you can imagine Arcumeggia is an open-air museum!
